1st Annual RUHS Alumni Baseball Game a BIG HIT!

Saturday March 22, 2003, 11 am and the Memorial Field bleachers were filled with excited fans. Wives, girlfriends and children cheering on past Redondo Union High School Baseball Stars. The 1st Annual RUHS Alumni game brought back players from the sixties and seventies through to present day Major Leaguers.

The day began with an exhibition of power as players competed in a traditional Home Run Derby. Ten men competed with ages from 25 to 50. Many home runs were hit as well as a few cars out on Prospect Ave.
In the end, 1987 All-State Player of the Year, Scott Davison took home the Waterford Crystal Trophy. Scott displayed the type of power that helped the Sea Hawks to a League Championship that year. One of many the Sea Hawks have earned.

Play was exciting from the start. Each team had pitchers that were throwing the ball at speeds in excess of 80 mph! Many great plays were made by all players and the competition was very intense.
The game came down to the bottom of the seventh tied-up, 6 to 6! Scott Albin scored on a single by Robert Digenova to break the tie making the RED Team winners of the 1st Annual RUHS Alumni Baseball Game.

Past and present coaches were in attendance to help make this game a success.
During the game, Redondo Athletic Association sold plenty of Redondo Sea Hawk merchandise along with holding plenty of raffles. Winners claimed premium tickets to Dodger and Angel baseball games. They even got parking passes!

The day was capped off with a private soirée hosted by our friends at Hennessey’s Tavern in Redondo Beach. Delicious food and drinks were enjoyed by all.
